I was doing some one footers on PVC pipe yesturday but not backslides. I was also able to pull off a cheesegrater or two but I doubt Ill be able to it on my rail considering that a. It's a square rail and
b. It's not on the ground like the PVC was.

it's all about the groove. You should be able to just set your foot on there, and stand in the backslide position and balance for a second or two without sliding out.
