Nov 23, 2001 by aaron

masso writes, "I have been skating for about 8 years now but i dont skate anymore as me mates are into skateboardin.

I have had some rollerblade grind shoes for about 3 years now and love em to bits!

I want some soaps but not sure of what to think of em?

I tried some on but i cant grind very well in them, maybe i am a cheat and use rollerblades as they have metal on em! lol

Are the salomon ones any good?

Cheers for ur input buds!"

Aaron adds "This is a question that I think should be asked and anwered often, beacuse there is a lot of new people coming to this site everyday who have not seen the past articles. Anyway, it might take a while to get used to SOAP shoes because they do not grind as fast without wax, but put layer on some wax and they should go like your Rollerblade shoes, you'll also like SOAP shoes because they should be better for handrails going down stairs and they also have the ability to do tricks, the wheel on Rollerblade shoes limits the possible trick vocabulary. As for Salomon shoes, they are nice, but they grind slower than SOAPs in alot of cases so switching from Rollerblade to Salomon might have some difficulties. The biggest advantage to the Salomon shoes is that there is a sole plate on them, unfortunately the sole plate is skinny. Overall, SOAPs are my favorite, they grind at a nice speed, not too fast or too slow, they have excellent control and possible trick vocabulary, they last a long time, have nice brake bars on many models, and on the Broadsides you get a really light shoe with a huge sole plate."
