Soaping / Skateboarding
Sep 26, 2003 by derek

I know that Skateboarders generally flame inline skaters and soapers, but has anyone here ever tried mixing skating with soaping? It adds a whole new area of tricks. You've all seen skaters do finger flip tricks or some kind of grabbing of their board while in the air.

What is stopping someone from popping their board up while riding toward a ledge/rail, grabbing the deck, grinding that object with your shoes, and then coming back off with an acid drop onto the board? I know that in order to do this, you would have to have a pretty good amount of skill on both your deck and with your Soaps, but if you were to pull it off, you would have the sickest media and pushed the shoes to their fullest potential. You would surely have my full (FULL) respect. I would probably fly to wherever you are just to film it.

Imagine:
  • Roll to a rail ready to do a 180 ollie, grab your deck and turn it into a sort of 180 royale or alley-opp mizuo, and back off onto your deck.
  • Do some kind of Mullen trick where you grind a ledge with one foot on the deck (in 5-0 position) and the other on the rail underneath the deck...

I know this would all be insanely tough, but it redefines both Soaping and skateboarding and could bring a HUGE market to Soap. What do you think?

I have done something like that, rode up to a rail, jumped off the board grind the rail then jump back on, all without having to adjust my speed for the board, but I have never tried to grind with both

i too have seen it done many times at skateparks when kids tried my shoes, i also remember 2 or 3 years ago there was a skating/soaping website where all they did was combine the two and they had pics

I've done that on a curb, but not a rail... Props to you if you can prove that you've done it.

I had the exact idea when I first got my shoes/deck. But then I found out that I couldn't skate for shit

yeah i've talked about it with a few of you before... but still have yet to see it. i guess i'm not really asking who has tried it... i'm more challenging everyone to try it and get some sick ass media. i'm gonna work on it... i'm finally starting to get confident in my skating so i guess this is the next step.

Yeah, I have tried it on a ledge roll, jump off grind then land on the board again. My friend anthony has done an awesome grind combo with his blades tho, I'll upload that soon.

yo, i got dibs on greg bustin this out first.

    alright dude... good luck.

A good half of that clip could have been cut out. Like the long period of you shooting nothing but the guy's blades. AND YOU WONDER WHY YOUR BANDWIDTH GOES SKY HIGH

    Oct 1, 2003 Wesker

Yes. Yes. But what do you think about the Skoaping? :P

    Oct 2, 2003 Mart

Should I be impressed just because he's wearing one shoe and one skate? The action is exactly the same, so there's no extra skill involved.

And before you say that the Soap plate is in a different place to the h-block on a pair of skates, remember that Soap plates are far larger than an h-block

    Oct 2, 2003 Wesker

I never said you should be impressed in the skill. Even though doing those tricks on blades I hear is kinda hard. I just thought it was really funny.

    Oct 2, 2003 D-bag

You know what I think about that? Thats the most insanely stupid idea I've heard in a long time.

    Have a nice day!

Hey im 10 years old and i can do so many tricks soaping. Like a royle,cheesegrater,U.F.O. you name it.

    Oct 3, 2003 Mart

Did I say that I wasn't impressed by the skill? No. I said I wasn't impressed by him wearing one shoe and a skate

Having replaced 'one shoe and one skate' with 'skill', you seem to think that this 'skoaping' is a skill. No. Grind-wise, it's exactly the same as blading

I would have expected you to say that those tricks are hard... I mean, omfg, he did a ROYALE. That's UNHEARD OF AT NYCS

dude i do this shit all the time. it's pretty easy. just do a boneless up to a rail and grind down. it may take a few tries but it looks nice. try flipping the board when you are coming out of the boneless. hey maybe i'll get some footage soon.
