Braking
Feb 3, 2007 by kobansora I've been looking around lately and I've been trying to figure out how to brake while grinding. I don't have my shoes yet, but I would like to know how to brake in case I get too fast on a long stair rail or something.. Any advice? ~JJ Replies

You gotta tweak far if you wanna hit that brake bar on ur shoes

aha, that's a great question, and here's the answer.
the difference between "pro" soapers and uncontrolled soapers is a grind plate modification.
all of this control comes from grinding down then inside and outside of your plates. i mean way way down so that when you lean in or out a little rubber will actually be on the rail.
so to go fast, you keep your feet frontside, then to slow down you just tweak your feet a bit. if you've ever watched oNe or tWo you can actually hear the shoes squeaking a little bit... that's the rubber on the rail.
method 1: the first time i did it, i found a peace of "dragon skin" it's this super super rough metal "sandpaper" with 1 sticky side. i wrapped the dragon skin around 2" rail (most rails are 1.5" so i wanted it to be a little wider). then i just rubbed my shoe across it in both ufo and royale positions until it was down far enough.
method 2: just find a really rough ledge and do the same thing.
