Fun and Freestyling: Walking getting dull?
Dateline - Nov 2, 1998

Freestyle Walking Like skateboarding without a skateboard, this has a following among the younger crowd who saw it on MTV. Busta move! And to think all those years when I would suddenly skip, twirl, walk on a curb, etc. I was freestyle walking!

Freestyle walkers have their own specialty shoe - the Soap Shoe company makes a shoe with plastic grinder plates (which they say will not damage surfaces), so you can leap up on a railing or curb and slide down it trapping it between the grinder plates of your shoes. Needless to say, this activity is frowned upon by those who must maintain public buildings and who worry about the condition of their curbs and liability.
