I tried on a pair once. They have rolling metal bars in place of grind plates for "faster, better grinds" and "a cooler noise while grinding." Yeah, well, they're UGLY :P
Hey, Check it out, i found some pix of these things....i dunno if they're these cause these are TGS....the ones im showing u were on ebay....anwyayz, u be the judge:
The RB shoes were junk. The metal rollers either rusted or bent in rendering them useless. That and it was near impossible to form a groove in the damn plates.
Hah, the only groove you would get is on the edges from torqued grinds. That plate looked pathetically thin, too, so I can't imagine that they'd have lasted too long
hmm....i thought the idea here was that all u needed was the plate....i thought that was the idea there.....and if they're gonna bend like Dario said, they must be a useless annoyance.....rollers...hehe
i thought the point of them is when u lost or forgot wax it would not be needed 4 these shoes i have tried them out 1 time & yes i think those "rollers" would bend over time but 1 plus to them is the sound & sparks they make!
i jus got a pair of these today, really comfortable and grinds really smoothe but there is no lock on what so ever...over all they are good, especially just to play around with
I sure they would be good to "try" new but from what the comments are i don't think you'd want to own these for your grinding.
I think the rollers are there for when its a rough surface that would destroy plates. But if the rollers have a problem it would mess up regular grinds I'd think.
I'm waiting now for an e-mail from the seller with pictures so I can assess their condition before we negotiate price.
This is a quite special collection of grind shoes I've built in just a few days and at little cost, especially considering there is no industry anymore.
Whoop whoop!! Final price 35€, including delivery, because there is a little bit of rust on the metal bars in one shoe. I'll shine them up like new when they arrive.
Yeah, I read a lot of negative stuff about them. From looking at them it seems like the metal bars are going to prevent you from carving a good lock-in groove on the plates.
My motivations for buying them are more to do with me wanting to have a smorgasbord of grind shoes.
Also, just as an example of the extents I am going to while trying to find obscure grind shoes. I found my TGS in the youtube comments of this dodgy, old Soaping clip.
Not only did I pick-up my Herr Wilsons here in Oslo today, my flatmate in Manchester also sent me an email right now to say that my Rollerblade TGS arrived in England today!
I am searching now for a nice cheap flight so I can go collect them (and another two pairs of Soaps I have waiting for me there).
So TGS stands for The Grind Shoe and they were rteleased in 1998
"Joining the product launches of 1998 was Rollerblade, Inc.'s, first footwear offering. The Grind shoe, introduced to the consumer market simultaneously with the Coyote and the Natureskate, was designed for grinding on curbs and rails, sliding, and jumping. This everyday shoe, featuringRollerblade's patented Twin Bar Roller System, capitalized on the company's brand equity to introduce anew product line and skating concept to the consumer market. Yet again Rollerblade succeeded inexpanding its product offering to uncharted territory while maintaining quality image consistency."
I'm at the airport now and flying to Manchester in a couple of hours, where I shall meet and wear and grind in, for the first time, my Rollerblade Grind Shoes.
The right shoe has a tear across the sole. So they are yet to be tested. Gonna take a few pictures today and try negotiate a price reduction with the seller.
I didn't pay much but paid for shoes in working order. I have to repair them now and they won't have the same structural strength as before they tore.
I'm assuming to only pay for the cost of postage, which I think is fair.
I've been hyper-busy moving to Cordoba so I haven't sent him the pictures yet.
However, he e-mailed me out of the blue to ask if I received them. I told him about the damage and, obviously, he asked to see pictures. He has offered to refund appropriately.
I haven't sent him the pictures yet, so we haven't negotiated the final amount yet either.
I had a set when i was younger, cool noise and lock-on on rails (and fast if rollers dont seize) and awesome sparks on ledges. Hope it all works out for you man.
yo did rollerblade make grind shoes other than the tgs because i found this online https://www.google.com.au/search?q=salomon+mr+wilson+grind+shoes&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=vXXPU_STKoHe8AXri4KACQ&ved=0CBsQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=643#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=lQ2FZP4MGdD2tM%253A%3BJVQ5vooY6YF-cM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.angelfire.com%252Fnm%252Fyouvegotmail%252F2.gif%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.angelfire.com%252Fnm%252Fyouvegotmail%252Fgrind.html%3B255%3B182

They basically rust so they don't roll anymore, not that rolling would have been safer.
Also it's going to go somewhat slow without a lot of wax, so let me know if you see some sparks haha.

Might even have to drench the legdes I'm grinding on in petrol and see if I can't light that shit up with my shoes. Ha ha!
