One Footer Balance
Jan 3, 2002 by alexei

Watching oNe simply puts me in awe of their skill. But one thing my friends and I have had trouble figuring out is the balance and technique guys like Ryan J. use for their backslides and their fastslides. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or experiences.

alexei adds: I would offer this dude some help, but unfortunately, I'm one of "the friends" who's just as puzzled as Kyle. I think both soapers and bladers could help on this one.

for backslides - try just standing on the ground, tilt your back foot into a royale position and balance on just that foot. try lifting your other foot in the air and grabbing it.

once you've mastered that, rock around a little bit to see if you can hold your balance.

the next important part is make sure you have a really good royale groove worn into your shoe.

now, get out a practice rail!

fastslides are really dependent on the slope of the rail. really the only way to balance these is to be on a fairly steep rail - it's nearly impossible (to do correctly) on any kind of horizontal rail. check out bryndon's fastslide in "The Big O" video to see what i'm talking about.

torques however - follow the same advice as the backslide but with your opposite foot... in farfegnugen position.

Dude, torqueslides are even harder :\

I think the secret to Bryndon's fastslides is seriously worn-down plates. The backslide-fastslide switch he does in one is ridiculous, I don't see how anyone could possibly do that without worn out plates

i know what you mean.....i played that part over and over again....i couldnt believe it...Thats some seriously awesome shit...umm..as for fastslides (cause i cant do backslides) what broox says is true....It is pretty hard to do it on a horizontal ledge or rail....i dunno...life is wierd like that....i think that fastslides are easier for me for 2 reasons...

1. i always go in front-foot first
2. i sk8 a lot

all you have to do is break your ankle once and after that your foot just rolls right over into royale position making it really easy to balance...
