Asking for Info
Jan 20, 2010 by Ironbug

Just starting out here guys, first of all, want to eb friendly and say Hi:)
Now, where can I get some reading/instructional vids? I checked youtube, and, tbh, havent seen much...
I really want to get into it, but not sure how, or where to start..
Also, I guess, being from the UK, any place I can get those darned-elusive Soaps would be nice, I use Rawk personally
Thanks, in advance:)

Watch oNe and tWo. And soaping isn't too hard, you'll get it eventually.

Also, check out this site http://www.kateskates.co.uk/store.html?x4=soap&;x2=&x1=2060188469&x=0&y=0

I'd consider yourself lucky to live in the UK.

Thanks, but, are there any more instructionals, or step by steps? Maybe another user could help/write a guide/ give tips?:)

Yeah, I'm a new SOAPer too. I'll probably be getting a large hospital bill within the next month or so.. Lol. Better play it safe since it's winter and there may be frozen water on the rails. But that could be more fun with less friction. Hmm...

So Tedd or 'Master '...
How'd we begin then?:P

I'm from the US. Up north in NY, in a small town that has nothing but a gas station as a grocery store.. If you can call it that. So sadly, there aren't too many rails to grind. Hopefully I can manage something.

Anyway, I'm gonna start off by building my own starting rail. (http://www.instructables.com/id/Grind-rail/)
Also gonna try to make my own SOAPs. (http://www.instructables.com/id/Soap-Shoesmake-your-own/) That might let me get the grip of SOAPing without hurting myself and/or ruining my shoes before I know what I'm doing.

Jan 22, 2010Tedd

.. Okay, without hurting myself TOO badly. xD

Ringwood's not that far away. It's about an hours way by bus/coach. We should arrange a meet-up, you and I.

You guys are lucky, I wish I had a soaping buddy :(

@Tedd
If you're gonna make spme soaps, I strongly recommend NOT making these ones.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Urban-Sports-Grindoes/

I made these for my Sonic costume last year (ftw) and they grind like shit lol. But I've never made the ones you posted, although I did try.

Jan 23, 2010Kooksoaper13

what sucked about them, just the pvc didnt grind right or what, I was gonna try, but i might use like some nylon pipe or something if thats the case

Jan 23, 2010Brad

Well for me it was that the size of pipe was too damn small, you had to land perfectly if you wanted to go anywhere. I never tried to grind a slanted rail but meh. You can try to if you want, they just didn't do it for me.

Jan 23, 2010Tedd

Yeah, you might want to get a decently sized thickness of a rail, sorta like a skate park thickness. I'd say what, 5" in diameter? Dunno, that may be too thick but you get the idea.
