I cant compare it to anything else because i have only gone through 2 pairs so far (of Express)
Only bad thing i can say is, after maybe 6 months or so of grinding, the shoe literally starts falling apart. You can pull the rubber right off the shoe and the grindplate starts to crack.

The Express model is not a terrible shoe. It is indeed very light and you can zip down a rail/curb/etc like nothing. It's downside (as mentioned by RightFlank96) is that it can be torn up rather quickly judging by shoe standards.
I hope he isn't dissing the shoe's quality. For anyone who doubts the quality of soaps, i'm going to see if i can get the Clinic In A Can video up soon.
Dec 7, 2007 RamenRadio
He doesn't know what he's talking about. Not exactly that is.
He's assuming that the plate doesn't have enough nylon to be worn away.
I've grinded on a lot of curbs and ledges with the express. I think it's better off on rails (especially square rails).
However, nonetheless, it works. I got a small groove in the plate, but it hasn't gotten down to the soap O.
Not yet that is, but AJ's did.

1. Do not walk through mud or over extremely rocky and root filled trails in the woods as your poor plates will get beat up.
2. Search everywhere NOW for a long pipe to grind as your gonna want to grind stuff as soon as you get them.
3 When you jump on the rail if you want more control make sure your back foot hits the rail before your front foot as hitting it with your front foot first will result in more speed but less control.
4. Put 70% of your weight on your back foot (roughly)
5. Hit the rail with a "chick" "chick" sound, you want your plates to hit the rail one after the other, its a beautiful sound haha
6. Practice and practice

Do what you need to do to get shoes that can grind, but most of the heely shoes are uncomfortable. Soaps are definitely more comfortable, but if you find a pair of heely grind shoes then get them. All grind shoes are rare nowadays

Dec 3, 2009 sylonbroadsides
Grinding is going to take just a little bit of practice, try and grind on some painted curbs and ledges. Use paraffin or bees wax on what you grind on.
Anything else, just ask in the forums man! :)

Dec 10, 2009 sylonbroadsides
Grind n rolls do not have an express plate, and are a waste of money. I bought mine retail price too, and I feel seriously ripped off (grind this, but they are the same shoe).
Stick to something with express plates, like pro series or heelys flow.
Dec 11, 2009 Brad
Dec 11, 2009 Timuukun
I won't know what the Pro's are like until after Christmas, but I'll post a detailed review when I get them, if Broox or someone could add a page for them. But...at $100 a pop, Pro's probably aren't the best "dicking around" shoe, would be my guess.
Dec 11, 2009 Timuukun
Dec 11, 2009 sylonbroadsides
Pro series is supposed to be "better" than the torches, but pro series have express so I'd assume they are at least the same.

The flaw with the grind this grind plate is that its more thin, and the lock-in isn't great.
And Brad, you're actually supposed to put grooves in your plate. It's better for lock-in and breaking, team relate made that method a hit.

I got my Expresses today, and although I'm not allowed to use them till after Christmas, I put them side-by-side with the Heelys Pro's for comparison, and...
THEY'RE THE EXACT SAME SHOE!
I'm not joking...the only difference is that one has a wheel in the heel, and one doesn't (and some minor asthetics). Way to be original, there, HSL...
Dec 18, 2009 Brad
Dec 18, 2009 Timuukun
And the first thing I do when I get sticker paper is cover over all the HSL symbols with SOAP symbols (on my Pro's, that is).
I may still use the wheels for messing around (after all, I am kinda a convert from HSL), but I've now got some Expresses for my serious work.

Dec 23, 2009 Timuukun
As for those of us with normal feet, however...things are tougher. BTW, Travis, wouldn't anything with the Grind Rails plate be a worse fate than the Grind This?
Oh, and less than three days till I get my Expresses!
Dec 23, 2009 sylonbroadsides
I think those grind plates are the same. If you see any HSL shoes with grind plates that are on the grind this, then those grind plates are really bad. It's mad flat, and they are still pretty bad if you even manage to get grooves into the shoes.
If they have an express plate, snatch 'em

Then again...even I'd have trouble finding 13's where I live, and there are a couple of Heelys dealers around me. I'll keep looking for you...I get emails every time someone posts anything remotely related to SOAP on eBay.
So far, though, all I've seen are a few very expensive designer bars of soap. I suppose that's one way to go...tape a bar of wet soap to the bottom of a shoe...but somehow I don't think that'd work too well ;)

First of all, they're amazingly more comfortable than the Pro's. They actually mould to the shape of the foot, and all Heelys feel like wooden blocks in comparison. And second, they're a hell of a lot more stable. I soaped the picnic table I usually practice on the first day I got them, and it was just smooth as silk. No imminent sensations of doom like with the Heelys,
I can't wait to keep on using them! Unfortunately, however, I've gotta lay low for a week or so. I had my first major wipeout on New Year's Eve...and I think I'll wait until the five stitches come out of my chin before I go back at it.

And as for that place that sells Heelys near me, the do have some Torches, but the biggest they go is size 10. :( I'm seriously bummed.

And...I'm sorry, man. I'll keep looking in the US for you, but you've probably got a better selection than I do if you found Torches at all. I don't ever recall seeing anything with a grind plate in my market.
Still...I'd still consider myself lucky if I were you. You've got Sylons! That's GOTTA be better than a pair of slightly-beat-up Expresses and some low-quality Heelys knock-offs!

If I can remove them, I might keep them on for a little to try them out, then see how it is. Even if they aren't, then what grindplates should I get in case I get some shoes that have removable ones?

Wish I wasn't so stupid and used these things for pe... Whatever it was worth it I guess. The rail they had was pretty good it was just like hip height so it was completely easy to jump on. To bad I got caught. :D
